Some interesting blogs.
I found a fun and informative blog today: Linxi Nutrition. This blog is written by a Chinese graduate student in nutrition at Tufts University, Xi Lin. He presents good nutrition information in an enjoyable style. He wrote a particularly entertaining treatise on the subject of gas that had me laughing.
Another blog I heard about recently is Life after 6. This engaging blog is written by a New Zealand man who has survived 6 open heart surgeries due to complications of Rheumatic Fever. His motto is “It can always be worse than it is.” He has written a book about his childhood experiences living in the hospital, Purple Heart.
This next is not so much a blog, but a web page for a book. The book is How to be Sick by Toni Bernhard. Her website is www.howtobesick.com. I’m reading this book now on the recommendation of some other chronically ill women I know. Toni Bernhard writes the story of how she came down with a viral illness and never recovered, ending a successful career as a law professor and seriously curtailing all activities. She is a practicing Buddhist and has used Buddhist teachings to help her cope with her illness. The next chapter I’m about to read is entitled, “Finding Joy in the Life You Can No Longer Lead.” I am quite intrigued and look forward to reading it.
